FROM ATHENS & THESSALONIKI ( BY CAR)

By car, Volos is 3,5 hours from Athens and around 2,5 hours from Thessaloniki. To get to Agios Georgios Nilias, the best route, so that you avoid the traffic in Volos, is the following:

After you have turned at the intersection in "Velestino" towards the exit to Volos, you take the exit to “Portaria” taking the highway. You cross the highway up until the end of it,without turning, until you get to the tunnel with a mandatory turn to “Agria”. You cross “Agria” and “Kato Lechonia” and when you reach “Ano Lechonia” you will see a crossroad with traffic lights, where there is a sign with a left direction towards “Agios Vlasios” and “Agios Georgios”.

Going up the mountain, after the village of “Agios Vlasios” on your left, you continue up the mountain, you reach Agios Georgios Nileias. You cross the village, pass the square you will see up the road on your left a sign “Archontiko Vogiatzopoulou”. The distance from the highway until the village is about half an hour (about 22km). In case you want to come through Volos, you cross the whole town, drive towards “Agria” and from there the directions are the same.


WITH BUS OR TRAIN

     You can come to Volos with a bus from Athens in 4hours (320 km) and from Thessaloniki in 2 hours and 30'minutes (217 km), as well as with a train “intercity”, from Athens in 5 hours and from Thessaloniki in 3,5 hours. From there the best way for your transport is to rent a car. However visitors can always get the bus towards Pelion villages. There are buses every day towards the bigger villages but fewer towards the smaller ones.


BY AIRPLANE

     Visitors can also get to Volos by plane. The nearest airport to Pelion is the one in "Nea Agchialos" 30km from Volos. It runs mainly in the summer with charter flights from abroad. After your arrival special buses can transfer you to Volos. From there you can rent a car, which is the best way to get to Pelion. However visitors can always get the bus towards Pelion villages. There are buses every day towards the bigger villages but fewer towards the smaller ones.


FROM AND TO SKIATHOS ISLAND

    If you are in Skiathos island, or you wish to visit the island, you can easily get the fast ferry from Volos port. Alternatively, you can catch a small boat from Platanias to Skiathos.


FROM AND TO METEORA

     The unique Meteora, characterised as a monument of worldwide legacy from UNESCO, is only 2,5 hours from Pelion and Agios Georgios, making it an ideal destination for a daily trip.
